McLaughlin Centre for Molecular Medicine (MCMM)
The MCMM was founded with a $50M endowment from the R. Samuel McLaughlin Foundation and is a joint initiative of the University of Toronto and four partnering hospital institutions (Sunnybrook & Women's, SickKids, University Health Network, and Mount Sinai Hospital).
The Endowment was leveraged with partner contributions and matching funds from the Ontario Innovation Trust to enable a variety of infrastructure projects.
The annual Endowment interest is used as operation funds for the MCMM which is matched with partner cash or in-kind contributions.
The MCMM is a virtual centre whose members perform research activities at its partner sites. MCMM's administrative core calls the Toronto Medical Discovery Tower home, which is part of the MaRS Centre that is located in the heart of Toronto's Discovery District.
MCMM aims to significantly impact and improve health and healthcare through facilitation of translational medicine, specifically the application of molecular advances to clinical care.
MCMM was established in 2000 and began operations in February 2003 with the hiring of its first Director.
MCMM strives to reach its objectives by stimulating the translation of new discoveries in to innovative clinical applications and focusing resources toward projects that can translate in to tangible healthcare benefits.
